Kirsty Hanson returns to Aston Villa Women in a permanent deal

Aston Villa Women have confirmed the permanent signing of Kirsty Hanson from Manchester United subject to FA approval, a player supporters have been calling for since the final whistle, last season. The club have confirmed she has signed a 2-year contract at the club with the option of a further year.

The 25-year-old born in Halifax had a successful loan campaign at Villa last season making 28 appearances throughout the season with 17 goal contributions (8 goals and 9 assists).

Her form earned a call-up to the Scotland team (which she is eligible for through her mother) for the World Cup qualifiers where they unfortunately lost in the final game against Ireland.

Hanson began her career playing in the Manchester United Centre of Excellence before moving to Liverpool due to a lack of opportunities at United. She then signed her first professional contract for Sheffield FC in 2016, before moving to Doncaster Belles in the 2017-18 season where she made 27 appearances scoring 13 goals in the second tier.

The Scottish winger then moved back to Man United in 2018 when they announced the formation of a senior women’s team. At Man United Hanson made 65 appearances scoring 14 goals before falling out of favour under manager Marc Skinner after he joined in 2021.

This led to her joining Villa on loan on the deadline day of the 2022-23 season to get some game time before the World Cup where she quickly became a fan favourite before committing her future with the club, before the start of the new season.

Carla Ward and Villa have made fans excited for the new season with the signings made currently. With fans now wondering who is going to be next through the door in this successful window so far.
