Diego Carlos closing in on a return

Diego Carlos has been teasing supporters with many posts on his official Instagram account of himself back in training.

The Brazilian also travelled with the rest of his teammates to a winter training camp in Dubai, but all his training was done independently. The one question on many Villans’ lips has been, when will we see Carlos back in a matchday squad?

Carlos arrived at Villa Park in the summer in a deal that was worth around £ 27 million from Sevilla. Many see him as the missing jigsaw in a Villa defence that has struggled defensively over the past 18 months.

“It was a tough injury that he had but he is close to starting to work with the team on the pitch,” Unai Emery stated ahead of the New Year’s Day clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

The 29-year-old played just two games for Villa before injuring his Achillies Tendon with reports suggesting he could be out for the remainder of the season.

Emery continued which is positive news to Villa supporter’s ears: “I think the month of January, we will not see him playing. February is the month he will be ok,”

With such an injury I can’t imagine Villa putting too much pressure on Diego Carlos as there will be worries of further minor injuries during his recovery.

But going by Emery’s words Villa will be without their big centre half for the next four Premier League games and our FA Cup tie with Stevenage. A possible return date could be against Leicester City at the beginning of February.

I am sure the club’s official social accounts will start to ramp up his return once he gets some on-the-field training with his teammates and maybe some friendly playing time.
