Player Ratings

Emiliano Martínez – (7 out of 10)

Another clean sheet from Martínez as he kept Leicester’s depleted forwards out. He is building up a real good partnership with the defence in front of him

Matt Cash – 7

Yet another solid performance from the former Nottingham Forest man. He has settled in very well since his move and picked up more interceptions (5), tackles (4) and clearances (4) than any other Villa player. Booked.

Ezri Konsa 7

The more you watch him, the more you admire him. Everything he does looks effortless. Villa are now unbeaten in eight Premier League games (6 wins, 2 draws) since the former Brentford man was moved into the middle of the defence.

Tyrone Mings – 7

Mings is building up a great relationship with Konsa and grows with confidence by the game. He has become a crucial part of the spine at Villa Park.

Matt Targett – 7

I was harsh on Targett at the beginning of the season and rightly so, he deserved it. His performance was better against Liverpool and tonight he put in another solid performance, even contributing from some set-pieces.

Douglas Luiz – 6

The Brazillian has had a great few weeks with Brazil but looked tired tonight. A few wayward passes but Villa back under pressure. His own high standards were not on show tonight.

John McGinn – 7

Looks back to his best. Causing a nuisance of himself all over the pitch. He is so crucial to everything Villa do as he assisted the winner. Happy Birthday, Meatball.

Barkley got a 7 in our Player Ratings

Ross Barkley – 7

Not at his best tonight but stood him when it really mattered with the game decider. Later confirmed he had been unwell all week and had not trained.

Jack Grealish – 8

My Man of the Match. Caused problems for Leicester all night. If I was to have one complaint about our captain, it would be that he could or should release the ball a little quicker at times.

Trezeguet – 7

I discussed before that he has really upped his game since the arrival of Bertrand Traore. Villa’s new signing will have to settle for more time on the bench as the Egyptian put in yet another shift for Dean Smith.

Ollie Watkins – 6

Tried to be effective but struggled to get in the game.
