Player Ratings: Arsenal 0-3 Aston Villa

Aston Villa shocked the watching world as they brushed Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side to one side with a 0-3 victory at the Emirates Stadium.

An own goal from Bakayo Sako and two from striker Ollie Watkins were enough to see Villa come away with all three points. It was also another clean sheet on the road for Emi Martinez.

Another very good win from Villa, we rate the players. Vote for your Player of the Match here.

PLAYER RATINGS

Emiliano Martínez – 7 (out of 10)

Another clean sheet for the former Arsenal goalkeeper. Was largely unchallenged but was solid when called upon. It makes such a difference for the defence when they have a goalkeeper they can trust behind them. I wonder if Arsenal fans think they have sold the wrong goalkeeper?

Matty Cash – 8

After a difficult couple of games against Leeds and Southampton, Cash was back to his very best today. With more interceptions and tackles than any other Villa defender, you could see he was determined to make an impact.

Ezri Konsa – 7

I have spoken about how much I rate Konsa plenty of times this season and once again he was solid for the majority. I do worry about when he is closed down quickly, he seems to panic and give the ball away to the opposition but hopefully, he will learn to deal with those situations in time.

Tyrone Mings – 7

Another composed performance from the defender who will now go and meet up with his England teammates. Mings seems to have gone back to basics again this season and his game looks much better for it. A vital member of this Villa side.

Matt Targett – 7

After a slow start to the season, the former Southampton defender seems to have settled down with another good performance. Looked comfortable for the majority and links up very well with Jack Grealish.

Douglas Luiz – 7

Luiz plays in a position where his work often goes unnoticed but I thought he was absolutely everywhere today. He got out wide to help his full-backs making defending that little bit easier. His ball to Barkley late on which resulted in a goal was one most Brazillian players would have been proud of.

John McGinn – 7

I thought Mcginn looked tired last time out against Southampton and late on tonight I thought the same. He was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet early on and I do worry about how much he will play for Scotland. He may need a break soon.

Watkins was on fire against Arsenal with our man of the match in our Player Ratings

Trezeguet – 8

The Egyptian returned to the starting line up due to Bertrand Traore’s injury and he took the chance with both hands. Again, like McGinn, was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet. His work rate is second to none. If I was to have one criticism of him, it would be that he needs to get closer to the opposition when helping Cash out defensively. He races back but then seems to stand off giving them time on the ball.

Ross Barkley – 8

Barkley seems to grow with confidence when his teammates are on form. Grew as the game went on and links up so well with Grealish and Targett. Assist

Jack Grealish – 8

Grealish just gets better and better as the England international got yet another assist this season. We all know by now, when he performs, Villa perform. One of our own.

Ollie Watkins – 9

I am desperate for Watkins to do well for Villa and tonight he didn’t disappoint. Not only did he score two, but his hold up play caused the Arsenal defence problems all night. He now has 6 Premier League goals and eight in all competitions this season.
