Indiana Vassilev returns from the US

Aston Villa’s 20-year-old striker, Indiana Vassilev is back at Bodymoor Heath and will be hoping to impress new manager Steven Gerrard.

Vassilev has spent the last few months playing in the MLS for Inter Miami. Reports suggest that the striker impressed during his time in the States but he struggled for goals as he hit the net just three times in 793 minutes of football.

He managed just seven starts with a further fourteen from the bench.

The striker has also had loan spells with Burton Albion and Cheltenham Town in recent years but failed to make any real impact despite Cheltenham winning the League two title.

What next for Vassilev?

Christian Purslow has made no secret that he expects players to be in and around the first time by the time they are 20. Vassilev has made four Premier League appearances for Villa but is way down the pecking order.

Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings are Villa’s first choice and then we have Keenan Davis waiting in the wings. Wesley will still hope to have a future when he returns from his own loan spell also.

Steven Gerrard has stated that all players will get a fresh start under his leadership and will no doubt take a look at the American over the next month until the January transfer window opens.

I must admit, I wouldn’t be surprised if Vassilev departed Villa in January for another loan move with a view to a permanent deal. His deal runs out at the end of the season and I would be very surprised to see Villa extend his deal.
